Product Line Review: Hairitage Hydration

Yes it's time for another product line review!
This time it's Hairitage Hydration.
I had purchased a few products from HH’s pre-BF sale and decided to finally use them after reading several ladies review on hair forums. I’m still on my quest for the perfect deep conditioner so I picked up her Deep C along with a few other conditioners and sealants. Shall we begin?

The Deep C:
Ingredients: Water, Palm Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearalkonium Chloride, Aloe Vera Gel, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Aloe Oil, Irish Moss, Marshmallow Root, Blue Green Algae, Silk, Fragrance, BTMS-50, Cetyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol
Directions:Apply generously to clean hair and finger comb through. Leave on hair for at least 5 minutes. For extra conditioning, leave on hair for at least 15 minutes with a plastic cap. Rinse thoroughly with water.
Price: 15.00 for 4oz.
My Thoughts:
Yeah so I didn’t follow the directions at all. I initially applied some JBCO to my hair and then on top of that I added this product to DIRTY HAIR. I let this sit on my hair overnight as a pre-poo treatment. Not to fond of the smell or lack there of. I was able to detangle my dirty tresses and then placed them in to four braids. In the morning I rinsed it out and noticed that my hair was soft. Overall, I wouldn't purchase again solely based on the price for 4 ounces of product, I just can’t get with paying more than 8 or 9 dollars for 4 ounces of product.
I cleansed my scalp with my HG Olive and Babbasu Shampoo Bar from Chagrin Valley and followed up with a much needed protein treatment. I didn’t fully check the ingredients from HH but I opted to use my SheScentIt Okra “Hair Repair” Reconstructor. This isn’t a full review because I’m solely focusing on HH products but let me just say that my hair LOVES this reconstructor. I play to rotate this during every wash day during the winter and in the spring/summer/fall I will use it 2x a month rotating it with a moisturizing conditioner. More on this product later.
Sticky Honey Hash Conditioner
Ingredients: Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearalkonium Chloride, Hemp Butter, Olive Oil, E-wax, Fragrance, Honey, Glycerin, Germall Plus, Pine Oil
Directions:Use after shampooing. Leave in for 3-5 minutes and rinse. Use to detangle
Price: 26.00 for 16 ounces
My Thoughts:
Again, I DO NOT FOLLOW instructions. IDK why I never do but I know my hurr so I do as I please. Anywho I used this to deeeep condition with, I figured the honey and glycerin would be a nice steam treatment for Azizi (my hurr) since she happens to LIVE for honey. So I applied this to clean hair in four sections…attempted to detangle. Let me repeat, attempted to detangle. Yeah, detangling with this product, not so much. Sat under my steamer for about 15 minutes and washed out. Smell wise, I can detect a faint smell of honey but that’s about it. I will say that after washing this out my hair was soft and my curls were poppin. I may add this to the non repurchase list, price point is killing me. Plus my hair really loves Oyin’s Honey Hemp condish.
After washing out this condish I added Hairveda’s Vatika Frosting to do an oil rinse with. Can I just say how yummy this product smells. It reminds me of cake batter or something sweet like that. But I will do a full review on this product later.
Time for LCO in which I used:
L- Alikay Natural’s Lemon Grass Leave In
C- Hairitage Hydration Soft Coconut Marshmallow
O-Grapeseed and Sweet Almond Oil mix
Soft Coconut Marshmallow
Ingredients: Purified Water infused with Marshmallow Root, Lime butter, Castor Oil, Irish Moss Infused Coconut Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, BTMS-50, Germall Plus,Lime and Tea Tree Essential Oil
Directions:Distribute throughout the hair. Finger comb out tangles or use a wide-toothed comb.
Price: 15.00 for 8 oz
My Thoughts:
As previously stated, I used this during my LCO method and it was okay. I was able to detangle with the product and it did leave a pleasant smell in my hair. This does not smell like marshmallow anything, it moreso smells of limes…maybe key lime pie. Not much to write home about this product, it did keep my hair mositurized and it’s not too thick of a LI for my low porosity hair. I need to use this more to decide if I will repurchase or not.
Lastly, I used the Castor Infusion on my edges. I want to use that a few more times and then provide you all with a detailed review on that along with the products I already reviewed and the two others that I have left to review. I shall do an updated review sometime in the New Year.
Overall, I did like some of the products, others were just eh. Sheena is currently hosting a 26 percent off sale that runs today from 2 – 6pm EST.

Just a small disclaimer: If you are going to purchase from this line, please do your research. This vendor has had issues with customer service, product reformulations without notifying customers and unsanitary conditions. Needless to say, everyone is their own person and makes their own personal decisions. I just thought I throw that out there as a small disclaimer.
Until next time :)

FUBU Natural Hair Products?

Yes, that title is correct. Our old friend FUBU has popped up on the natural hair scene and has created a few products for both men and women. I’m guessing Daymond realized how much money natural hair women spend on products a year and decided he wanted in on the action. Eh…I don’t blame him. If I had the time to create my own product line, I would! But any way let’s discuss these products, shall we?fubu
Now first and foremost, I’m a huge fan of Shark Tank and I love watching how Daymond helps young entrepreneurs build their brands as he so successfully did with FUBU over 22 years ago. Like I previously stated, I think he caught wind of just how much natural hair product companies are making and like any business mogul, decided to take a leap of faith. Daymond has named his line, Natural Style by Fubu…very creative LMAO.
Women’s Collection:
The women’s collection contains a gentle shampoo, leave – in conditioner, a combined deep conditioner and co-wash, a curl elongator, curl-defining gel, flat iron heath protectant spray, and a miracle must have treatment.
It looks like each product is 100% paraben & sulfate free and they all contain the Miracle 9 complex which contains:
organic shea butter
sweet almond oil
virgin olive oil
bamboo oil
jojoba oil
argan oil
avocado oil
virgin coconut oil
pomegranate seed oil
I must say the Miracle Must Have looks rather interesting, it does claim to increase protein so  I’m guessing this is some sort of protein treatment, so sorry for you ladies who don’t mesh well with protein. However .5 FL samples are being offered for free for the deep conditioner, the gel and the curl elongator, yet you are expected to pay for shipping, which is only a $1.
Men’s Collection
The men’s collection is also 100% paraben and sulfate free and it looks like each product contains:
organic shea butter
virgin olive oil
tea tree oil
argan oil
The products in the men’s collection include, 3-n-1 cleansing wash, 3-n-1 oil moisturizing lotion and the 3-n-1 pomade. The oil moisturizing lotion is very intriguing. An oil lotion just doesn’t seem possible to me but hey what do I know. Sadly, only the 3-n-1 cleansing wash is currently being offered as a sample.
However, if you are interested in any of the products that aren’t included in the samples, according to the website Natural Style by FUBU is currently being sold at local BSS and soon they will be featured at select Walgreens.
What are your thoughts? I might scoop one of those samples just to see what FUBU is working with.

Product Line Review: SheScentIT

Hello all :)
It’s time for another product line review and this time this is one of my favorite lines. I absolutely love pretty much everything I have tried from this line and not to mention everything is pretty much affordable. I have been using SheScentIt since 2012 and here is a link to a previous review I did –>http://thelifeofaleo.com/2012/12/19/in-review-she-scent-it-riche-moisture-masque-banana-brulee-moisturizing-conditioner/
But anyway let us begin with a review of the products that I had purchased over BF. First up is one of her newer products, the Blueberry Cowash.
BLUEBERRY CO-WASH CONDITIONER
Price 12.00 for 9 ounces
What it contains Purified Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Marshamallow Althaea Officianalis Root Extract, Rice Bran(Oryza Sativa) Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado Oil), Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearalkonium Chloride, Yucca (Yucca Schidigera) Root Extract, Cetrimonium Chloride, Vegetable Glycerin, Vaccinium Corymbosum (Blueberry) Seed oil, Panthenol Vit B5, Fragrance, Germall Plus, Lactic Acid.
What it claims to do Blueberry Co-Wash Conditioner is a rich nourishing conditioner that moisturizes while gently cleansing by using the extracts of Yucca Root. It is a wonderful blend of conditioners, oils and botanical extracts meant to give your hair a true spa-like experience. Hair is left soft, detangled and frizz free.
How to Use Apply to wet hair. Massage gently into hair and scalp. Leave on for up to 15 minutes. Rinse. Hair is now soft, conditioned and healthy.
My Review First off let me just this smells divine. The blueberry scent isn’t too powerful but it’s just enough to leave your smelling your hair even after it is rinsed out. Secondly, I like how this product is in a pump bottle which makes it easier to apply to your hair, however I’m not sure if my product was just too cold but I had to pump extra hard to get the product out. I actually followed the directions on this product and applied to it wet hair and left it on for 15 minutes. I was able to detangle and my scalp was fairly cleansed. I forgot to take a picture of my curls after using this product but just know that my curls were poppin. I could definitely see using this cowash to do wash n go’s in the summer. Great product and it is a definite repurchase.
AVOCADO CONDITIONER
Next up is the bestselling Avocado Conditioner.
Price 8.50 for 9 ounces.
What it contains Purified Water, Persea Gratissima (Avocado Oil), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Vitis vinifera (Grape Seed) Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocos nucifera (Coconut oil), Panthenol Vit B5, Propylene Glycol (and) Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, fragrance, color
What it claims Avocado Conditioner was naturally formulated to rejuvenate dry, over-processed hair in as little as five minutes.
This conditioner also possesses excellent detangling capabilities and leaves hair smelling yummy with the fresh scent of berries and citrus!
How to use After shampooing, apply to hair. Leave on for 1 to 10 minutes. Rinse.
My Review I used this product after using the cowash and maaaan, listen the smell of these two together was AH-MAZING!! I was able to easily detangle (tons of slip) and my hair was very moisturized after leaving it on for 10 – 12 minutes. I’ve included pictures of my curls after using this conditioner and again they were poppin. Can we say Holy Grail product? I see why this conditioner is one of their best selling products. Next sale, I will definitely purchase a 16 ounce bottle of this conditioner.

 OKRA "HAIR REPAIR" RECONSTRUCTOR
Next is the Okra “Hair Repair” Reconstructor, yet another highly recommended product.
Price 12.50 for 9 ounces
What it contains Aqua (water), aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, cetearyl alcohol, Okra extract, behentrimonium methosulfate, panthenol, hydrolyzed Keratin, hydrolyzed soy protein, Wheat amino acids, hemp seed oil, wheat Germ oil, Calendula, Sunflower extract, Sea Kelp extract, marshmallow, glycerin, rice protein, fragrance, Optiphen, Xanthan gum, citric acid.
What it claims
Repair damaged tresses with our new breakage control conditioner. We used organically grown okra along with a special blend of botanical extracts, protein and ceramide rich oils to help revitalize and bring life back to damaged hair.
How to Use Apply Okra Hair Repair Reconstructor to dry or damp hair. Leave on for 10 to 30 minutes. Rinse. Always follow with a moisturizing conditioner.
This treatment can be used weekly. Can be used with heat for 5 mins on a low setting. Results can be seen after just one use but will dramatically improve with regular usage over time. For badly damaged hair that is breaking, use twice weekly for the first month.
My Review ****HOLY GRAIL ALERT**** alright y’all so of course I’m a low porosity diva but my hair can tolerate certain forms of protein and the soy protein in Okra product doesn’t bother it one bit. After countless hours of research, I’ve realized that my hair regimen was lacking in protein/moisture balance so I had purchased this product on BF and have been using this product every other week since the beginning of the year (I know it is STILL JANUARY but YH8, lol).
Anywho I have followed the directions listed on this product and left it on for 30 minutes and always followed with a moisturizing conditioner. Can I just say that the claims it makes are true. I have noticed a huge difference in my strands, they are stronger in the front where my hair was colored. I absolutely love this product. However, I will note that I think 2x a month may be too much protein for my low porosity hair..yet I need to make sure that I’m not using other styling products that contain protein so I won’t experience a protein overload. Next month I’m going to try and use it 2x a month but take note in the styling products I’m using for my LCO method and to style my hair with and will report back with my results. Smell is divine and I haven’t yet used it with heat but I will be sure to test out the heat treatment with my next wash in a few weeks. This is definitely a repurchase and will be added to my HG list.

JUICY BERRY BUTTERCREAM FROSTING
Lastly, is one of her newer products the Juicy Berry Buttercream.
Price12.00 for 5.5 ounces
What it contains Certified Organic Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Butter, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil,, Castor (Ricinus Communis) Seed Oil, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Berry Oil, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Oil, Fragrance, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel
What it claims Juicy Berry Buttercream frosting is a very nourishing hairdressing that promotes and maintains healthy hair growth by moistrizing and softening strands. It adds manageability and shine to naturally kinky, curly, permed and chemically treated hair, while nourishing deep from within the strands. Gives braids and twist the juicy shine that it needs. A must have for those harsh winter months!
How to use Rub a tiny amount between palms of hands. Apply to hair focusing on ends.
My Review I used this product along with Oyin’s Burnt Sugar Pomade to do my latest set of twists (I will do a separate post about this set next) and I love this buttercream. It is a light fluffy product that isn’t sticky and provides a ton of moisture. It contains a bunch of cool ingredients and surely lives up to its claims of providing the juicy shine to braids and twists. Didn’t notice much of a smell but I can detect a hint of lemon. My only problem with this is that it’s such a small amount of product for the price. I put a huge dent in my container and I can probably get 2 maybe 3 more uses out of this product, depending on the size of my twists. I will probably repurchase only during a sale.
So that’s pretty much it for now. I have been stalking her IG and she posted a new product that contains chocolate, coffee and delicious fragrances that would be released for Valentine’s Day. Although, I do not need anymore products, I may pick up this new product just based on the description alone lol. Be sure to check out her website, there are a bunch more products that I want to purchase and try both hair wise and body wise.

Beauty Review: B.A.S.K Body Products

ImageSnow Day= Blogging Day
Today’s post is dedicated to two of my new favorite body products from the company B.A.S.K which stands for Beauty Assortment for the Sun Kissed. Now, I’m quite sure like everyone else on the east coast, Pittsburgh has been dealing with some terrible COLD winter weather. I mean I usually amp up my use of cream based body products in the winter but this winter has caused me to go in to over drive.
I picked up these two babies when B.A.S.K. was having a major sale due to the discontinuation of some products or something like that. So I headed over to the site and picked up the Condensed Custard in the Lemon Beignet scent and the Plaintain Spice Warming Butter. I believe I paid about 23 dollars for both products including shipping. Upon looking at the site, I’ve noticed that both of these products are sadly no longer listed. Le Sigh
Anywho I did receive these products in a timely fashion and they arrived rock solid due to the Polar Vortex that was invading Pittsburgh a few weeks ago. Yet after a few hours in my lovely warm room they softened right up. I’ve been using both of these products for the past few weeks and I am absolutely loving them.
First up, The Condensed Custard in the Lemon Beignet scent. Let me first say that the scent of this is AH-MAZING! It totally reminds me of lemon meringue pie and I often think this is edible..yikes! But it’s definitely the more creamier of the two products I picked up. It provides great moisture and it causes me to constantly sniff myself throughout the day because it smells that darn good. I have read that other bloggers have used this custard in their hair, however I know my low po diva of tresses will probably not cooperate because this custard is just too darn thick. I will however give it a try with the use of my steamer or use it with heat to see if that will help the product to penetrate my strands a little better.
Next was the Plantain Spice Warming Body Butter, sounds delightful right? I believe this too was being discontinued or maybe it was a seasonal product (which would totally make sense) lol but I sadly don’t remember. Anywho this product is much more oil based than the condensed custard. Meaning when I rub the product in my hands and on my skin it immediately turns in to an oil which is a huge plus. I often use this on top of a cream based body product, just to be sure that I’m locking the moisture in. I have not used the two products together just for fear of creating a weird aroma. I mean the Plantain Spice reminds me of nutmeg, it has a very nutty aroma to it, perfect for the fall. Again with this one, I haven’t tried it on my hair just yet but I think if I were it would be used as an sealer because of the oil based products it contains.
Overall I love both of the products and look forward to picking up a few more of B.A.S.K’s beauty products, such as the whipped custard version of the Lemon Beignet and the truffle butter chocolate body butter…yum doesn't that just sound delectable?
Have you all tried any B.A.S.K. body products? What were your thoughts? Any favorites?

Love 'Em or Leave 'Em: Top Trends for 2013

Okay, we are well in to 2014 and after reading this article over at Naturally Curly, I'd figured I'd share with you all the top natural hair trends in 2013. Although I like to stay away from trends and fads just because I like doing my own thing, but some of these trends are just so beautiful that I had to share. Now of course the following list doesn't include everything, so feel free to comment any trends that you think were missed or ones that you think need to be amplified. Shall we begin?

 Top Knot Bun

The perfect lazy hair day, my twistout isn't working style. This could be achieved with your own tresses or extensions. I know I attempted a few top knot buns over the past year. Here are a few images I've found via the interwebs, all photos are taken from Google.

Me

Hair Chalk

Quite an interesting trend. For those ladies who are looking to add a little color to their strands and have commitment issues like myself, then hair chalking is perfect for you. This is one trend I will definitely be attempting during summer of 2014. Interested in more information about hair chalk...check out this article. http://hollistics.com/2013/05/01/hair-chalk-on-natural-hair/

Shaved Sides

Now this is one trend that I hope gets left in 2013. It seems like everyone and their grandma, yes their grandma was shaving their sides. At first it was an intriguing trend, that caught my eye. But after the one millionth girl did it two weeks later, I was over it. I will say this, I was throwing around the possibility of an undercut just because I wanted to do something different with my hurr, but that quickly faded. Who am I to judge though? To each its own I guess.

Ombre Hair

So I'm not sure if ombre was in during 2012 and just rolled over in to 2013 or if it began in 2013. I can't really remember. However, this also needs left in 2013 well more so the technique needs to be perfected. I'm over seeing 1B hurr clashing with a poorly dyed blonde half. LADIES!! Please do your research, if you can not do it then reach out to a stylist. But again, I'm not GOD and shall not judge other ladies hair choices.

Havana/Marley/Yarn Twists

Probably one of my favorite from 2013, TWISTS. I absolutely love twists. They are just so easy to manage and great for length retention. I've executed all of the listed twist styles and even am a fan of two strand twists and mini twist on my own hurr. I'm gearing up to install some Havana twists in the next few weeks, be sure to look out for that post.

Clean Eating & Green Smoothies

Hello all,

So I'm back on my clean eating journey and I must say boy have I missed it. I'm back to eating 4 or 5 small meals a day and drinking 3 liters of water. Tonight's dinner consisted of shell less taco salad.
I replaced ground beef with ground turkey, opted for no shell and lastly swapped out sour cream with greek yogurt. I also included sauteed green pepper, onions and salsa.

taco salad
By the way excuse the sloppiness of the bowl lmao. But this was amazing, I have to thank my mother for this lovely recipe.

Secondly, I've become slightly obsessed with green smoothies.I'm tempted to do a favorite green smoothie of the month page just so I can share some of my favorites with you all. But tonight I made a Vanilla Mango Spinach green smoothie.
green smoothie
Can I just say that this is delicious? It is so light and refreshing. I also even got my son and my grandparents to drink some and they are hooked. If you're interested in this recipe it can be found Here

My lunch is packed and my gym bag is ready for tomorrow.
Have a great evening everyone and to my east coast folks, stay warm.
Peace and Love <3
